12.5.2009- The Jacksonville Zoo

I must have brought the winter weather south with me. Rainy and definitely on the cool side this morning. Slept in and decided that it was clearing up in late AM… decided to try the Jacksonville Zoo.

One major difference from all the other zoos I have ever visited… here most of the animals are displayed outside. There are minimal buildings holding displays, reptiles being the notable exception. Of course, the displays do provide indoor space for the animals so that they may seek cover. This being a cool day, a number of the animals were inside and only a few of them were visible.

Believe it or not, I took 514 pictures, many of informative signs and many in multiple attempts to get a good picture through the protective glass or fence. Below are the shots that I hope will be of interest…
