10.20.2009- Off to Washington, DC

October 22nd, 2009 No comments

Managed to get Scooter loaded with food, fuel and other necessities and left Avalon Campground at 11:35AM with the mileage reading 13,825 (Toad is 21,365). Of course, no trip starts without some sort of glitch… almost immediately I hear repeated beeping (yep, as a warning alarm might sound) and finally realized that the hydraulic leveling system was out of sorts. In that this has happened before, I simply pulled the fuse. Haven’t checked yet but I think the fluid may be low.

On signing in at Cherry Hill Park (a huge, beautiful RV park right outside the Beltway) I was told about a meeting at 4:00 to let us know how to negotiate Washington. First and foremost, do not take your car in on weekdays… learn to use the Metro. Secondly, there are an amazing number of fascinating tours… I’ll be broke if I do them all. After studying all the handouts, I felt up to the challenge that tomorrow would bring- a trip into town, just to check things out.

After trying to sort out the mess that I had made in loading Scooter, I did some emailing (John Faunce, Topsy Ward, Rob) and went to bed. All in all, not an exciting day but a great start to a new adventure.
